2027 Itinerary
Day 1: Keralam | Arrival + Group Orientation
Welcome to India! | Upon arrival and check-in at AyurSoma in the early morning, we’ll hold an opening ceremony and orientation meeting to introduce everyone to the tour participants, tour guides, AyurSoma staff, and the Ayurveda Centre. Guests will meet with their Ayurvedic doctor for consultations and treatments.
Day 2: Keralam | Sunset Shiva Temple
Normal Daily Schedule | Day 2 is a light day with a focus on grounding, recovering from jet lag, and enjoying the morning yoga practice and Ayurvedic treatments. In the early evening we’ll take a leisurely walk on the beach to the nearby Aazhimala Siva Temple for a beautiful sunset Ganesha puja (ceremony). Crack coconuts and remove obstacles!
Day 3: Keralam | Jungle Boat Excursion
Modified Excursion Schedule | Day 3 is an adventure day. We’ll have an early yoga practice, then head out to tour the lush jungled Keralam Backwaters by jungle boat. Bring a bathing suit because we will stop at Golden Beach to take a swim in the Arabian Sea. We will return around noon in time for lunch and Ayurvedic treatments.
Day 4: Keralam | Rejuvenation Day
Normal Daily Schedule | Day 4 is another light day, with a focus on enjoying the morning yoga practice and Ayurvedic treatments. Spend the day swimming in the Arabian Sea or at the on-location pool, napping, or exploring the local villages. Go shopping at local merchants, all within walking distance from AyurSoma.
Day 5: Keralam | Rejuvenation Day
Normal Daily Schedule | Day 4 is another light day, with a focus on enjoying the morning yoga practice and Ayurvedic treatments. Spend the day swimming in the Arabian Sea or at the on-location pool, napping, or exploring the local villages. Go shopping at local merchants, all within walking distance from AyurSoma.
Day 6: Travel Day | Kerala to Madurai
Bus Travel | 6 hours | We will say goodbye to AyurSoma and Kerala and drive east from Trivandrum to Madurai. We’ll pass through rice paddies and coconut groves. Then, the hilly forest terrain of the Western Ghats mountains, with its waterfalls and rural villages.
Day 7: Madurai | Maneeksha Temple
Sightseeing Day | We tour the Maneeksha Temple in the soft morning light. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, and her marriage to Shiva. We’ll walk through the Hall of Thousand Pillars, the Golden Lotus Pond, and the outer shrines and corridors. We’ll tour the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, Pathu Mandapam Market, and the Gandhi Museum.
Day 8: Thanjavur | Brihadesswara Temple
Madurai to Thanjavur | 3.5 hours | We’ll travel in the morning, giving us time in the afternoon to visit the Brihadeeswara Temple, Thanjavur Royal Palace, and Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Thanjavur is a beautiful little town with a rich royal history surrounded by rice paddies.
Day 9: Chidambaram & Puducherry
Thanjavur to Puducherry | 3 hours | We’ll travel to Chidambaran Nataraj Temple in the morning, giving us time in the afternoon to visit the famous temple to Lord Shiva in the form of Nataraj. In the afternoon, we’ll continue a short drive to Puducherry, where we’ll see Sri Aurobindo’s mahasamadhi.
Day 10: French Breakfast & Auroville
Puducherry to Chennai | 3 hours | We will visit a French bakery for breakfast in the French Quarter. We hope to visit the famous international community Auroville for a few hours to see the Matrimandir meditation hall. Then we push off to Chennai.
Day 11: Chennai
Sightseeing Day | In Chennai, we will visit the Mahabalipuram temple site, Vivekananda House, and Krishnamacharya Mandir, to pay tribute to TK Krishnamacharya, the father of modern Yoga, and his son, Desikacharya. We will eat in contemporary Indian restaurants and celebrate our last evevning together.
Day 12: Departure Home
